The Little Stars League is a fun, inclusive, and development-focused competition designed for young players aged 3-6 years old.

Open to boys and girls, this League provides a fantastic introduction to the game in a structured but engaging environment where teams can be mixed.

Open to boys and girls, this league provides a fantastic introduction to the game in a structured but engaging environment where teams can be mixed.

Games are played in a 4v4 format, with entrants electing to either ‘join a team’ or ‘enter a team’. A team has a maximum of 6 players and minimum of 4 players.

 

Competition Details

The Little Stars League will take place on Fridays at Brighton Grammar on the Mitchell Oval. The dates are:

16 May, 23 May, 30 May, 6 June, 13 June, 20, June

There will be three divisions of competition, split based on the team’s year level. This can be seen below:

Division 1 – Year 1 

Division 2 – Prep

Division 3 – ELC 3 & 4

Game times are divided into three timeslots, an example of this can be seen below:

  • How is the competition run and what are the rules?

    PITCH SIZE

    24m x 18m

    RULES

     Teams

    • 6 players max per team, 2-4 players on the field of play at any time (no keepers)
    • Interchange subs (a Coach/Team Manager to organise this)
    • All players must have appropriate sports attire (sports uniform/runners/shinpads)

     Equipment

    • Size 3 ball
    • Pop up goals

     Referees

    • 1 central referee per pitch

     Length of Matches

    • 2 x 14 min halves (2 mins H.T period)

     General Rules

    • Game commences with one team starting with KO from the centre of the pitch
    • If ball goes out, play restarts with a kick in from the side (first pass is free)
    • No offsides rule

     Free Kicks

    • All free kicks are indirect
    • Opposition must be 5 steps away from where the ball is placed

     Corner Kicks

    • Corner kicks from the corner with one free pass short allowed

     Goal Kicks

    • Goal Kicks are taken right in front of the goal, with the first pass being free (ref will move opposition team back to retreat line to allow this)

     Restarts

    • After a goal is scored, KO from the centre of the pitch for the team that just conceded

    Penalty Kicks

    • Penalty kick will be awarded if a player uses their hands to stop a goal or a defender deliberately fouls an attacker to stop an obvious goal scoring opportunity

     Mercy Rule

    • If a team falls behind by more than 5 goals, they will be allowed to add an additional 5th player on the field of play until the score is tied. If this occurs, the game will return to its original 4v4 format. This will act as an added challenge for the team in front and hopefully a boost for the team behind.

     Points

    • 3 points for a win
    • 1 point for a draw
    • 1 point for skill of the match
    • 0 points for a loss
  • Where will the competition take place?

    Competitions will be played on the Mitchell Oval at Brighton Grammar School.

  • What if there is bad weather (thunder/lightning etc.)?

    Games will be postponed to a later date if:

    • The weather exceeds 34 degrees between 3:30 and 5:30pm (assessed at 1.00pm the day of competition).
    • There are adverse weather conditions such as lightning, hail or thunderstorms that make play unsafe.

    Games will not be cancelled due to rain.

  • What does my child need to bring to the lesson?

    Hats during Term 1 and 4

    A water bottle

    Sport specific attire

    Runners or soccer boots are preferred

    Shin-guards are essential

    Note: Bibs are provided by BGS+, uniforms are not required for competition

  • Can I sign my child up midterm?

    Individual enrolments are accepted throughout the term, provided there is availability in a team. 

    Whole team entries are also accepted provided there is availability in the fixture.

Cancellations

Cancellations will be accepted within 7 days from the invoice issue date each term. Withdrawals outside of this timeframe incur an administration fee of $50.
