A distinguishing factor about our Junior School is the way the curriculum is designed and delivered to be boy friendly.
We know boys, especially young boys, are generally visual, spatial and kinaesthetic learners.
They like to ask the big question ‘why’, they love hands-on activities, competition and lots of variety in the learning program.
The BGS Junior School Experience
From the ELC through to Year 6, boys will undertake a journey spanning milestones and achievements leading them to become the best young men they can be.
A broad curriculum designed to spark curiosity and growth.
Beyond literacy and numeracy, boys enjoy a rich range of specialist programs including Science, Design & Technology, Art, Sport, Outdoor Education, Chinese, Music and enrichment opportunities such as robotics, coding, chess and debating. Excursions and study tours further enrich the learning experience.
Learning Support, Enrichment and English as an Additional Language (EAL) programs are also available to meet individual student needs.
In the Junior School, every boy is supported by his teachers, peers and wellbeing network to ensure he feels known, valued and included.
Students also belong to a House, taking part in a wide range of sporting, academic and cultural activities that strengthen friendships, foster belonging and build school spirit.
Through mindfulness and other wellbeing practices, boys develop emotional awareness, focus and self-regulation. Our daily mindfulness sessions provide opportunities to pause, reflect and build strategies that support learning, resilience and positive wellbeing.
As any parent of a boy knows, boys need space to run, play and grow.
The BGS Junior School is a spacious and attractive campus with ample room for all sorts of physical and leisure activities. Boys have ready access to tennis courts, playing fields, a sensory garden area, and three adventure playgrounds.
During PE time, they also use the gym and swimming pool.
