Ian trained in Melbourne and completed his PhD at the Baker Institute. He spent the next three years at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, where he trained in interventional cardiology.

Ian has over 20 years’ experience as a clinical and interventional cardiologist. He has performed more than 10,000 invasive cardiac and coronary procedures and has been chief investigator or principal investigator, for over 30 major international multi-centre, randomised trials.

His clinical experience includes percutaneous coronary interventions, rotablation, intra-vascular ultrasound imaging and also structural heart disease which includes PFO and ASD closures and percutaneous aortic valve implantation.

Professor Meredith has authored and/or  co-authored over 200 published papers. He is a member of the board of the National Heart Foundation (Victoria Division), member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand National Board, past chair of the Cardiac  Society of Australia and New Zealand (Victoria Region), chair of ANZET organising committee, Associate Director of Transcatheter Therapeutics (TCT) the world’s largest interventional cardiology meeting and past member of  the Board of Trustees of the International Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

Ian also serves on a number of professional and Federal Government committees and advisory boards, including the Department of Human Services Cardiac Services Review and the Federal Government Department of Health and Ageing Cardiac Prostheses Advisory Group.

Ian was instrumental in the establishment of Monash Heart and his vision has led to the outstanding clinical, research and education achievements made since then.

In 2012, Ian was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia “for service to medicine in the field of cardiology as a clinician and researcher, and through advisory roles with a range of public health and organisations”.
