Dr Ray Swann
Deputy Headmaster, Head of the Crowther CentreThis week we had the pleasure of visiting the Junior School to adjudicate the Public Speaking Competition. Once again, we were blown away by the oracy skills demonstrated by the boys.
Presenting to their peers, along with Deputy Headmaster and Head of Junior School Peter Tellefson, their teachers and a panel of judges is no easy feat. Their courage and resilience were remarkable.
Their clear articulation, varied pitch, confident memorisation, strong eye contact and purposeful use of gestures reflected both their commitment to learning and the many hours of practice they had invested. Special thanks to their teachers, who have supported and encouraged them throughout this process.
In a world where technology is ever-present, oracy and literacy are a key focus from ELC to Year 12. It was refreshing to see these students developing public speaking skills that will continue to serve them well into the future.
