Safe Partying – what parents need to know

From the Crowther Centre

When our children start to go to more ‘grown up’ parties, many parents feel a little worried. While we want our children to socialise and have fun, we may also be concerned about their capacity to make good decisions and remain safe when in a group or party situation.

It is common for parents to feel unprepared and unsure about what they can do to support their children. While every family will have their own views, being aware of the potential risks surrounding teenage parties can help mitigate them more effectively. Educating yourself around the laws regarding alcohol, drugs and other risky behaviours, as well as the impact these can have on the developing teenage brain and body can help you clarify your expectations and enable better communication with your teenager.

Knowing what your children are learning at school can also be helpful. Every student from Year 7 – 10, participates in our Health and Wellbeing curriculum where we provide both information and harm minimisation strategies to help your children make better-informed decisions in real world situations.

On Wednesday 31 July from 7.00–8.00pm, we invite you to join Kristen Molloy from The Crowther Centre as well as Ingrid Howren, our Health and Human Development Coordinator, for some practical strategies you can employ at home to help your teenager maximise his enjoyment, manage his behaviour and keep himself safe.

While this webinar is aimed at parents of Secondary School boys, all are welcome.
